Chapel Pews

What is this?

Do you surf the web on an iOS device and end up at dead-end apple.news links, just because you deleted the News app? 🤦‍♀️

Be frustrated no more! Apple’s new Shortcuts app on iOS 12 makes it a little easier to open the articles you were destined to read.

How do I use it?

  1. Install the Shortcuts app from the App Store
  2. Install the Chapel Pews Shortcut
  3. Use the Shortcuts share sheet any time you open Apple News links! ✨

All set up? Let’s take this dune buggy for a test drive! Tap and hold this link:

apple.news/Ax82RDtsLRRmXIwfQK7Bcjg

Tap Share..., then Shortcuts, then choose Chapel Pews. That’s it!

How does it work?

Apple News links are simple web pages that act as a jumping off point. If it detects you’re on iOS, the page tries to launch the News app by redirecting to an applenews:// URL. If you’re not on iOS, it redirects you to the original article (usually).

Chapel Pews takes a quick peek at the contents of that page and tries to find the original link. If it does, it redirects you there automatically 💫️
